Industry / #NYDD

April 5, 2010

I was recently asked to sit on the board of directors of the New York Digital District, an initiative lead by Mike Germano of Carrot Creative, Sam Lessin of Drop.io and Brian Lemond of Brooklyn Digital Foundry. DUMBO is staking its flag as becoming the New York “Digital District”. Over 60 digital agencies, while competing on a professional level, have vested their interest and unified to establish DUMBO as the “Digital District” for purposes of attracting talent, clients and recognition of where brands should come for their online needs. This emerging business sector would benefit by having an organized body of professionals dedicated to advocacy and charged with identifying DUMBO as the place to look to for new media marketing and web design needs.

The most important, innovative, and influential new media agencies are located in DUMBO, with more moving in all the time. DUMBO is leveraging itself to strategically grow into the epicenter of New York’s digital future.

We have some simple goals… To create and implement a marketing campaign which identifies DUMBO as the epicenter of New York City’s digital future. To organize and leverage the existing digital society in DUMBO to strategically grow the industry. To build a vehicle by which digital entrepreneurs can pool resources and pursue common interests, and finally ensure that the digital community has a seat at the table with community stakeholders.
