The Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America (IAVA) needed a online campaign solution facilitate a massive grass roots movement in Washington DC called “Storm the Hill”. During this week long event, The IAVA brought two dozen Iraq and Afghanistan veterans from across the country to meet with more than 100 Congressional offices, to present our legislative priority for 2010: reforming the VA’s archaic disability claims system. The online component featured a customized Google map and Twitter mash-up that allowed thousands of people around the country to pledge their support, as well ass aggregating activity from Youtube, Twitter, and Tumblr all in one centralized location.

Visitors to the site were prompted to “Make their Mark” on the map. By doing so we ask each person to tweet a message to their respective representatives and senators based on their geo-location data, then they get to place themselves on the map with a custom marker.
